You may already know that Ellen DeGeneres has released a book entitled Home. It is a stunning portrayal of her homes, both past and present, with Portia de Rossi. DeGeneres has personally renovated and decorated 15 homes in total over the past 25 years and this coffee table book takes us through 7 of the most impressive ones. She has been quoted as saying “I think I wanted to be an interior designer when I was 13” and when looking through this book, it's clear that her design prowess comes naturally.
Perhaps the most significant of the houses in this book is the 26-acre horse farm just north of Los Angeles. Built by William Powell in the 1920s as an estate, it has a rich history that DeGeneres has beautifully captured.
The property features eight individual cabins and several barns, which all took on a different look, “I approached it like I was designing and decorating 10 different homes, giving every cabin and space its' own unique identity—had I not, I think it would have started to feel a bit like a hotel. But that was a unique challenge, too, because while I wasn’t fixated on making a whole ‘house’ that hangs together as one, I also wanted it all to feel like home. The only real theme that stuck was comfort.”
In just 12 short months DeGeneres and de Rossi transformed this farm into a natural wonderland. It's rustic, charming and not too “overdone.” It's luxurious in its' roughness and feels earthy and grounded. It’s the inspiration to “get the farm look” from…
